FAQ

Answers to common plastering questions

If you’re planning a plastering project, it’s natural to have questions before getting started. Whether you’re looking for advice on skimming, ceiling repairs, drying times or the areas I cover, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions below.

GMAC Plastering provides a wide range of domestic and commercial plastering services throughout Worcester, Malvern, Droitwich and the surrounding Worcestershire area. With over 21 years’ experience in the trade and 15 years running my own business, I understand that every property and project is different. The questions below are based on enquiries I regularly receive from homeowners, landlords and commercial clients.

Yes. Not every customer needs an entire house plastered, and I’m happy to quote for smaller jobs throughout Worcester, Malvern and Droitwich. This can include patch repairs, damaged walls, ceiling repairs, making good after electrical or plumbing work, and single-room projects. Many customers contact me for relatively small jobs that still require a professional finish, and I’m always happy to discuss what’s needed and provide a free quotation.

I understand that when you’re planning work on your home, you don’t want to wait weeks just to receive a quotation. I always try to respond to enquiries as quickly as possible and arrange a visit at the earliest opportunity. In many cases I can provide a quotation within a few days, depending on my workload and the size of the project.

I’m based in Worcester and regularly carry out plastering work throughout Worcester, Malvern, Droitwich Spa and the surrounding Worcestershire area. Much of my work comes from local homeowners, landlords and builders, and I’m always happy to discuss projects slightly outside these areas if required.

Every plastering project is different, so costs vary depending on the size of the area, the condition of the existing walls or ceilings, and the amount of preparation required. Rather than providing rough estimates over the phone, I prefer to see the work where possible so I can give an accurate and fair quotation. All quotes are provided free of charge and without obligation.

Plastering can be a messy trade, but I take pride in working as cleanly and tidily as possible. I use dust sheets where needed to protect floors, furniture and fixtures, and I always aim to keep disruption to a minimum. At the end of the job, I make sure the work area is left clean and presentable so you can move on to the next stage of your project.

Drying times vary depending on the weather, ventilation and thickness of the plaster. As a general guide, fresh plaster should be allowed to dry fully before decorating and will normally change from a dark brown colour to a consistent light pink shade as it dries. If you’re unsure, I’ll always be happy to advise when the work is completed.

Yes. Ceiling repairs are one of the most common enquiries I receive. Whether it’s a cracked ceiling, water damage, sagging plaster or general wear and tear, I can assess the problem and recommend the most suitable solution. In some cases a repair is sufficient, while in others overboarding and re-skimming may provide a longer-lasting result.

Yes. I regularly work on renovation and refurbishment projects ranging from single rooms through to larger property improvements. This can include re-skimming walls and ceilings, plasterboarding, making good after building work and preparing rooms ready for decorating. I also work alongside other trades where required as part of wider renovation projects.

Yes. Appropriate insurance is in place for the work I undertake, giving customers additional peace of mind. I understand the importance of trust when working in someone’s home and always aim to provide a professional, reliable service from the initial quotation through to completion.
